You know you dream about it. White sand beaches, cool ocean breezes and crystal blue water. A place where your biggest daily concern is the color of your swimsuit and variety of cocktail. Welcome to the picturesque US Virgin Islands of St John and St Thomas.
The Caribbean welcomes visitors from around the globe with its warm days and sun-kissed beaches. On St John and St Thomas, Americans have the added convenience of the US dollar and English as the native language. We are thrilled to have these beautiful islands as a part of our Stayful community. We’re packing our bags right now, and we’d love for you to join us!
Complement your St Thomas and St John adventures by staying at a boutique hotel that suits your unique traveling needs.
We’re usually all about recommendations, but when visiting these islands, we recommend not making a plan at all. That’s right. Just relax and talk to the locals about the best restaurants, beach-side bars and must-see spots. But in case you need a jumping-off point (other than the one where you’ll be jumping into the blue water), here are a couple to get you started.
If you’re looking for the epitome of island-style service and cuisine, head to Sweet Plantains on St. John. Taste a variety of local rums on the patio while enjoying the amazing view of Coral Bay. The dinner menu by award-winning chef Rose Adams consists of fresh local fish, flavorful curries and (of course) sweet plantains every way imaginable. Go on a Sunday or Monday for the French-Caribbean specials.
Maybe we shouldn’t mention it so it stays a secret, but it’s just too good not to share with our insiders: Lindquist Beach on St. Thomas. Nothing but crystal-clear water and gorgeous powdery white sand for you to enjoy in this secluded area. There is a small fee ($2 per person) to enter, but that covers access to new bathroom facilities and parking. Just go and thank us later for showing you one of the most beautiful views on the island.
The Virgin Islands have a rich history, diverse culture and breathtaking scenery. Yes, please do spend lazy days at the beach enjoying rum-based cocktails, but make sure to explore a bit further too.
Located at beautiful Trunk Bay Beach on St. John is the National Park Underwater Trail, a unique snorkeling experience. Swim through crystal-clear water and follow the underwater signs to see colorful corals and a variety of exotic fish.
A visit to the Caribbean is only complete once you've explored some Pirate history. Visit Blackbeard’s Castle on St. Thomas, a watchtower from where the infamous pirate Blackbeard is said to have kept watch for ships entering the harbor. If you’re adventurous, the Pirates & Ghosts Night Kayak Tour might be for you! You'll hear spooky tales of long-gone pirates while paddling around the harbor waters around Frenchtown, all in a small group of 12 people max. Watch for non-ghostly marine life illuminated by the the LED lights of your kayak.
The St John Inn is our top pick for a truly relaxing and affordable stay on the US Virgin Islands. This colorful and welcoming hotel, in a charming and historic building in Cruz Bay, is conveniently located close to shops and dining. All rooms feature A/C, refrigerators, microwaves and complimentary Wi-Fi. Although we hope you spend most of your visit unplugged, enjoying the gorgeous sunset on the hotel's patio along with a rum punch.
