Chill Out in San Diego

Sun, surfboards, and San Diego hospitality.

In San Diego, the locals see things a little bit differently. You will hear, 'no worries,' and, 'it's all good,' at every turn. Even with this laid-back attitude comes an attention to detail by our boutique hotels that will compel you to plan your next stay while enjoying those signature San Diego rays.

Pack your flip flops, it's the only beach side wardrobe requirement.

Local Guide

San Diego keeps us coming back for more. We're pretty sure these hotspots have something to do with it.

Sit Back & Eat

Best lunch in San Diego: Sandwiches at Searsucker — Image courtesy of searsucker.com

Be treated like royalty at Searsucker, where drinks are crafted in a unique fashion. Give the King James Edition Old Fashioned a sip and kickback in this hip restaurant whose Gaslamp location is highly convenient. Sandwiches are kind of a thing here at Stayful, so we can't help but recommend stopping in for a blacken salmon or the chicken brie at lunch hour.

For the casual San Diego vibe, Hodad's is a must in Ocean Beach. And if you're downtown, no worries there is also one on Broadway. Pack your shades and appetite for these oversized and delicious burgers.

Want to Get Your Tan on? Stay near La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is literally gorgeous; its beauty can hardly be described. As a protected area some typical beach activities are banned, however snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking are permitted in these calm waters. Many spend the bulk of their time climbing through the various nooks and caves while exploring this memorable stretch of San Diego's coast.

Enjoy the sun at La Jolla Cove Beach

The quintessential beach town vibe can be found at Mission Beach and boardwalk. There is prime surfing here, as well as swimming, tanning, and sailing. An active beach for the active traveler.

Just north is Pacific Beach where many boutique shops, restaurants, and bars are concentrated. Stroll through the Pacific Beach Farmer's Market on a Tuesday afternoon and pick up some local food for next day beach visits, or devour it on the spot.

What We Love

Experience Balboa Park

Balboa Park features multiple performing arts centers, one of which is the Starlight Theatre where the bar has been set high in regards to engaging performances. Get comfortable in a front row seat and let the low hum of the surrounding crowds excited chatter create a deep sense of anticipation before the first act.

"Casa de Balboa" behind the Reflection Pool

There are other cultural experiences here, including the Spanish Village Art Center and the Photographic Arts Building. Here you will also find the famous San Diego Zoo; home to over 4,000 rare and endangered species.

Pack the pup! There are numerous dog parks here, a canine vacation dream.

Local San Diego Breweries

San Diego has a shocking amount of local breweries. One of our favorites is Monkey Paw only a few blocks east of Gaslamp, but don't let our recommendation stop you from tasting others. Not only is their beer selection robust, but they also have waffle fries. Yes, you read correctly, waffle fries! Not to mention numerous other bar monkey bites that pair nicely with a cold brew. Monkey Paw is a great pit stop or an all day affair.
