5 Tips For Staying Healthy Mentally and Physically During a Pandemic

Since the beginning of the pandemic, life as we know it has changed considerably. People are moving less, we see our families less, and it can start to wear down on us emotionally and physically.

That’s why it’s important that you should take care of your physical and mental health as much as possible during this trying time. Take a look at some of the best tips for keeping yourself healthy during this pandemic.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is an important part of staying healthy. Each time that you sleep, your body recharges itself and gives your immune system the power it needs to fight off things like viruses. In addition to boosting your body’s defenses, it also keeps your brain healthy. Anyone who’s ever run low on sleep knows how hard it is to maintain a stable mood. Do yourself a favor and get at least six hours of sleep at night.

Exercise

Getting regular exercise is for more than just vanity. Regular movement keeps your body functioning at its best and also your mental health. Each time that you work out, your body releases endorphins that boosts your mood and reduces tension.

Although it’s entirely possible to exercise at home, you should also make sure that you walk outside. Fresh air and movement can make a huge difference in your mood. Make sure that you incorporate at least three hours of fresh air into your exercise routine a week.

Practice Stress Coping Techniques

Despite what you may think, staying home is a lot more stressful than we realize. It helps to practice stress coping techniques like deep breathing and meditation. Doing so a little each day will help keep your mind clear and less susceptible to feelings of anxiety.

Eat Well

Nutrition plays a huge role in our health. It’s important that you eat a well-balanced diet that’s full of all sorts of foods. From whole grains to vegetables to fresh fruits— everything that you eat should provide the necessary vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Even though during stressful times you may be tempted to reach for highly processed foods that are pleasurable, your body will thank you for choosing healthful options instead. Besides, healthy foods can be just as rewarding if you give them a chance.

Schedule Calls

Even though you might not be able to physically see those that you love as much as you would like currently, scheduling calls helps to make you feel connected. Try to get into the habit of scheduling at least one call every few days. Whether it’s your parents, your best friend, or someone you’re getting to know more, a conversation can bring you out of a rut and remind you that you’re loved.
