You’ve heard that everything is bigger in Texas… well, Houston is no exception. Featuring the world’s largest rodeo, Memorial Park (three times larger than Central Park in NYC!), this coastal escape is all about living large.

Houston may be best known for space launches, the energy industry, and a sprawling urban geography, but Houstonians also know how to have fun in a big way. Shopping, adventure, sports, beaches, museums and family-friendly activities await, so come on down ya’ll!

Local Guide

As the fourth largest city in the US, Houston covers a lot of ground. Whittling our list down to a few favorites was not easy, so make sure you also ask the friendly locals about their favorite attractions and watering holes.

Good ol’ American STEAK

Don’t think us too obvious here – but we just had to recommend our favorite sit-down joint for a classic steak and potatoes meal. Killen’s Steakhouse in Pearland will make the 15-mile drive from downtown totally worth your while. Juicy, tender, corn-fed, 28-day-aged Filet Mignon… or Ribeye… or Strip… or just close your eyes and point to the menu. You can’t go wrong!

Just the two of us

11,000 gallons of water per minute are falling almost seven stories down this powerful man-made waterfall

Houston might not be top of mind when dreaming of a romantic getaway – but think again, young lovers. Close to the Galleria is the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, one of the most popular destinations for couples. Grab a blanket and spend some quiet time under the massive oak trees with the one you love. And make time for a visit to the nearby Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, where you can stroll hand-in-hand around the beautiful grounds.

What We Love

We could go on and on about all the activities in Houston, but our best tip is to get a City Pass! You’ll save big on Houston’s biggest attractions (Space Center, Downtown Aquarium, Museum of Natural Science and the Zoo to name a few…) and you can skip the ticket lines.

Big on culture

Believe it or not, Houston has more performing arts seats than any city in the country except Los Angeles. What does that mean ya’ll? The ballet, opera, symphony and theatre are a‘waitin’. The Houston Symphony is the best in show!

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa

after a long day on your feet - pamper yourself with a massage, body wrap or facial at Trellis, The Spa at The Houstonian Hotel

If you’re looking for big Texas style and lots of room to roam, The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa is right up your alley. Situated on an 18-acre wooded oasis and across the street from the Galleria, you’ll experience an escape from the city right in its heart.

Houston, it’s time to say goodnight

Before you hit the sheets, grab a nightcap with a side of Southern charm at Julep. Newly opened, this bar/lounge has a hometown, chilled-out setting and features creative cocktails. Our top pick – the Spiced Julep, featuring apple brandy and rum mixed with burnt cinnamon, clove and allspice for a unique smoky flavor!
