3 Natural Remedies For Household Pest Control

No one wants to have pests in their house. However, some people are also hesitant about having a pest control company come into their home before they’ve tried to take care of the issue on their own. While having professionals take care of any pests you have will generally give you the best chance of really getting rid of your pests, there are more natural remedies that you can try first to see if you have any luck.

To help you see what these options are, here are three natural remedies for household pest control.

Various Essential Oils

Depending on what type of pests you’re dealing with, using essential oils can help to keep certain bugs or rodents at bay.

According to Rachel Brougham, a contributor to the Family Handyman, using essentials oils like lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and clove can help you keep pests like dust mites away. Generally, when you’re trying to use essential oils as a form of pest control, you’ll want to mix the oils with water and put that mixture into a spray bottle. Then, you can spray this solution wherever you’ve had issues with those particular pests. But before you rely on any essential oils, make sure you do your research about which oils are best at deterring the pests in your home.

Recycle Your Coffee Grounds

Another natural item that you can use to help with pest control at home is your coffee grounds. So rather than discarding them, you might want to consider recycling them.

Coffee grounds are particularly effective at taking care of ants. This is because, according to Hometalk and the Huffington Post, coffee grounds are actually lethal to ants. But other pests will want to steer clear of your coffee grounds, too. So if you see an area around your home where you think pests or other critters have been gathering, sprinkling your coffee grounds in that area could help.

Use Vinegar Or ACV

While many people know that vinegar and apple cider vinegar are great natural ingredients for household cleaners, they are also a great way to keep certain pests away from your home as well.

According to Jennifer Noonan, a contributor to BobVila.com, vinegar can be used to destroy the scent trails that ants use to navigate their way around your home as well as trapping fruit flies. So if you’ve been having an issue with either of these household pests, mixing up a little solution of vinegar and water or vinegar and dishwashing liquid should do the trick for you.

If you’re wanting to try to beat your pest problem on your own, consider using the tips mentioned above to find some natural remedies that may work for you.
