Skiing in Utah: of the Best Resorts in the Beehive State

This year, Utah looks set to equal it’s 2016/2018 record of 2 million skier days, thanks to 275 inches coming to the party so far.

This puts the Beehive State still a way behind arch-rival Colorado for the title of USA’s most-visited ski area. Yet, while Colorado’s numbers are in decline, Utah is seeing an increase in the number of visiting skiers every year.

Do you want to find out what’s so great about skiing in Utah? It all starts with where you choose to stay during your trip.

Where to Go Skiing in Utah

Before you set about looking for the best ski resorts in Utah, you need to know where the action is at.

When it comes to deciding where to ski in Utah, you have 14 different ski areas to choose from.

Most of these center on Park City, known as the largest ski resort in the US and one of the best places to ski worldwide.

1. Popular Park City Utah Ski Resorts

Park City Mountain Resort is famous for its high-quality powder and consistent snowfall. You can also look forward to an excellent, uber-plush apres ski infrastructure.

After you’ve tackled some of the best Utah ski mountains around, retire to one of the area’s top branded resorts. Here you can help yourself to hot chocolate, followed by sundowners consisting of champagne and Bloody Marys.

Grand Westin, Waldorf Astoria, Hyatt, and Marriott have all put down roots here.

Night time brings infinite attractions in the form of fireside relaxation, top restaurants, clubs, and more family-oriented activities like theatres and a bowling alley.

The top picks for a stay for those wanting a more intimate stay include Silverado Lodge, Treasure Mountain Inn, and Torchlight Inn.

2. Challenges at Alta Ski Resort

This area is a favorite among die-hard skiers with ‘skiing Utah’ on their hit list of things to do.

A deep, steep, powder is the order of the day here with a few beginners runs at Sunnyside and Cecret.

Together with Snowbird, Alta gets more snow than any other resort around and sometimes extends the skiing season to as late as 4 July.

If you want to stay in the heart of the action after hours, historic lodges like Alta Lodge, Alta Peruvian, or Alta’s Rustler are a good choice.

3. Unique Attractions at Snowbird

Right next door, Snowbird is as an excellent add-on to your Alta adventures. Like it’s neighbor, it’s favored by experienced skiers looking for steep runs and open bowls.

Snowbird has been recently refurbished and features some unique attractions like the Summit Restaurant at the top of Hidden Peak, and a 125-passenger tram.

Another hit is a tunnel through the mountain which carries skiers on a conveyor belt through a mining museum.

There isn’t a huge variety of hotels and inns to choose from in Snowbird. The Inn at Snowbird and The Cliff Lodge and Spa will put you at the heart of the action.

Snow or Shine

Utah’s snowy peaks are a great year-round attraction with plenty of off-season activities to entertain you too.

Summer is when the crowds disperse, and you’ll have all the best hiking, fishing, golf, and horseback riding you could desire.
